PURPOSE:To produce the titled compound economically, by converting a terpene alcohol corresponding to the objective compound to a Grignard reagent with isobutyl magnesium chloride, etc., reacting with a ketone, and hydrolyzing the condensation product under acidic condition. CONSTITUTION:The objective compound of formula IV [R<5> is CH2dH2OR<1>, group of formula III (R<1>-R<4> are H) useful as a base component of cosmetic, etc. can be prepared easily, by reacting the compound of formula I (X-Z are H, or X and Z are H and Y is OH, or one of X and Z is H and the other forms a bond together with Y; n is integer of 0-4) with isobutyl magnesium chloride (or bromide) in the presence of titanocene dichloride, reacting the resultant Grignard reagent with the compound of formula CH3COR (R<1>-R<4> are H or OH-protecting group, or R<2> and R<3> together form methylene which may have CH3), and subjecting the reaction product to hydrolysis or alcoholysis under acidic condition. |
