The loom has a lower row of parallel loop forming fingers and an upper weft-wise extending row of parallel yarn guides which are used for inserting two grps. of pile yarns into a base weave, of grps. of warps traversed by double wefts, to produce a loop pile. The yarn guides are movable laterally and vertically either individually together or in grps. to insert pile yarn loops into the base weave such that they extend over one or more grps. of wefts. The pile yarns of each grp. may be inserted differently in different regions of the cloth to produce a variety of complicated relief patterned piles.
