PURPOSE:To prevent a ribbon from being damaged and eliminate the need for a reloading operation, by printing by moving a multi-time thermal transfer ribbon in a printing direction by a length of 1/n of an effective printing width each time printing in one line is finished, in a serial-type printer using a thermal transfer ribbon capable of being used repeatedly n times (n>2). CONSTITUTION:Where the multi-time ribbon 1 is designated to be used 3 times, the effective printing width (approximate to the width of a recording paper 2) of the ribbon 1 is trisected, and the ribbon 1 is taken up by 1/3 of the effective printing width each time printing in one line is finished. Accordingly, it is unnecessary to take out the ribbon 1 on completion of take-up of the ribbon onto a take-up reel 5, invert the reel 5 and re-fit it in position. Accordingly, wrinkling, flexure or the like of the ribbon which would occur in the case of the reloading operation can be avoided, and printing with high quality can be performed. |
