An electronic engine control for a gas turbine monitors gas generator speed, power turbine speed, gas generator inlet temperature and power turbine inlet temperature. A plurality of power turbine inlet temperatures are averaged to produce an average temperature signal. A setpoint signal is produced for each of the parameters monitored for the gas turbine. The setpoint signals can be fixed or variable. Each of the parameter signals is compared against the corresponding setpoint signal to produce a difference signal which is proportional to the amplitude and rate of change of the difference between the parameter and setpoint signal. A gas generator minimum control signal is high selected with a power turbine minimum speed signal. The resulting control signal is input by means of a feedback loop to an output driver circuit within a fuel valve card. The control signal is selected in comparison to other alternate control signals which provide for a minimum and maximum fuel valve positions. The resulting selected control signal sets the fuel valve position. If any one of the power turbine temperature signals remains offset from the power turbine temperature average for more than a fixed time, a deviation signal is produced to shut down the turbine. Within the output driver circuit feedback loop the output of a differential ampilifer is monitored for a non-null condition. When such a condition exists for more than a predetermined time a valve fail detect signal is generated to produce a shutdown for the turbine as well.
