PURPOSE:To obtain a apparatus with a high durability, by providing a plurality of opposed sonic sensors mounted on a support frame and a signal processor which processes signals from a enunciation source held at the center of the support frame and the sonic sensors to display the results of measurement. CONSTITUTION:This apparatus includes an enunciation source 1 set at the center of a spherical support frame 3 and sonic sensors 2 provided on the spherical surface of the support frame 3 at point symmetrical positions and the enunciation source 1 emits sounds of a fixed frequency continuously and evenly in all directions on the spherical surface. Now when wind blows in a certain direction, a sounds emitted from the enunciation source 1 change in the frequency in all directions due to a doppler effect and the sounds of changed frequency are sensed with the sonic sensors 2. Here, the wind direction is given as the direction from the position of the sensor 2 which sensed the minimum frequency among frequencies sensed by the sonic sensors 2 to the position of the sensor 2 which sensed the maximum frequency and the wind velocity can be determined by the widely accepted formula from the maximum (or minimum) frequency and the sound velocity in the air. The maximum and minimum frequencies are detected with a signal processor 4 from signals from the sonic sensors 2 to calculate the wind direction and velocity and the results are displayed. |
