A fixed casing is established between the front projecting portion and the hollowed portion of a door edge. This casing consists of an horizontally-reciprocating bolt, a latch-operating device connected with both the bolt and an operator, a boltreciprocating device operator, and a backset. A latch construction is attached to the door, which has the same distance with that from the end of a casing plus the horizontal distance of the device operator shaft. In this latch construction, a casing projecting portion and a slot device, which are assembled with the casing, can control the backset distance in some extent horizontally.
