NEW MATERIAL:The 14-membered macrolide antibiotic substance AB-80 of formula. Appearance, oily yellow substance; ultraviolet absorption spectrum, absorption peaks at 212nm (epsilon13700) and 233nm (epsilon11000) in methanol; infrared absorption spectrum, characteristic absorption at 1,720cm<-1> in chloroform; [alpha]d<21>, -83.1 deg.C (C0.25) in methanol. USE:The substance inhibits the growth of germ tube of the spore of the pathogen of stem rust, and exhibits excellent controlling effect to stem rust of wheat. PREPARATION:A microbial strain belonging to Micromonospora genus and capable of producing the AB-80 substance, e.g. Micromonospora chalcea 1302-AV2 (FERM-P No.7663) is cultured, and the AB-80 substance is separated from the culture product. |
