The invention relates to a papermachine roll with a controllable sagging profile. The roll consists of a cylindrical shell (12), whose total wall thickness (H0) is sufficiently large relative to the load, squeezing the shell, of the press gap formed at the roll. To increase the slope and accuracy of the control of the axial profile of the press gap formed by the said roll (10), the axial bending stiffness of the said roll shell (12) is substantially reduced as compared with the bending stiffness of a corresponding roll shell of solid material by means of weakening grooves (23; 223) made in the shell and extending in a radial plane. <IMAGE> |
