PURPOSE:To enable character patterns to be printed while using a small-type character generator, by a method wherein one half of an ordinary character pitch in a Chinese character mode is set to be equal to the width of characters printed in an alphanumeric character mode. CONSTITUTION:One half of the ordinary character pitch in the Chinese character mode is set to be equal to the width of the characters printed in the alphanumeric mode. When printing alphabets or numerals as half-em characters in the Chinese character mode, character pattern information on the designated alphabet or numeral is read from a character generator 8a for alphanumeric characters, and dot information D1 for the first column and that D9 for the last column are respectively converted into character spacing information. Control is conducted so that the logical sum of the dot information D1 (D7) on the first column from the top (last) of the character pattern information and the dot information D2 (D8) on the second column from the top (last) is transferred to a printing buffer 7b as dot information d2 (d8) on the second columns from the top (last). Accordingly, a character generator 8b for Chinese characters is not required to have character pattern information for the half-em characters of alphabets and numerals. |
