The device according to the invention comprises, apart from the arc locating probes S1 to Sn, at least one sensor of displacement of the moving part of the switching apparatus and means of storing information provided by this sensor, means of storing the data required to represent at least the main parts of the switching apparatus, and means 20, 21, 22 permitting the formulation of at least one image consisting of a graphical reconstruction of the main parts of the apparatus with, printed on top, the representation of the movable part of the apparatus and of at least part of the arc column. The invention applies in particular to the research and development of cutout chambers of switching apparatuses. <IMAGE>
