PURPOSE:To automatically select vertical or lateral printing of input characters or image informations and to permit manual operation of the above selections also by controlling the recording directions corresponding to the directions or sizes to be used. CONSTITUTION:Supporting that Y is the paper feeding direction and X is the paper width direction, the dimension in X direction is detected by a detection resistance 2 and the dimension in Y direction is detected by a detection resis tance 5, and after analog-to-digital conversion, the results are stored in a micro computer of a controller 5 as digital data. In case of automatic mode by a microcomputer, the detected informations after analog-to-digital conversion are respectively input and the values are compared to calculate Y-X. By the decision of positive/negative calculation a vertical printing is selected if found to be positive and a lateral printing is selecting if found to be negative. If a manual operation is to be selected, an automatic key is not to be turned ON, and by the use of vertical or lateral selection key a desired printing mode is picked up. |
