The bottle transfer apparatus arranged at the exit of a machine for bottle manufacture comprises a horizontal and closed chain (10) which runs over two vertical gearwheels (12,13), one of which is driven. Cars (17) are fastened to the chain (10) at equal intervals and each is equipped with a tongs carrier (18) which is fastened in such a way that the two tongs (20) of one and the same pair lie on the outside of the chain (10). One (13) of the gearwheels is arranged near the final mould (2) in such a way that the tongs can grip the bottles resting on the bottom of the final mould (2), while the other gearwheel (12) is arranged near a slow conveyor (7) in order to set the bottles down on the latter. The drive speed of the chain is such that the speed of the tongs (20) in the zone in which the bottles are gripped is essentially equal to the speed of the bottles on the bottom of the final mould (2). The apparatus is used in plants for producing bottles. <IMAGE>
