In a plate-shaped filter insert (1) for a vehicle cabin filter, the edge enclosure (4) composed of a foamable plastic includes on the one hand the edge region of a filter material web folded in a zigzag manner and on the other hand the elongated and inwardly bent, segmentally formed U leg (7) of a U-shaped frame (3), which is mounted to make a positive connection in a U-shaped receptacle (13) of the bottom housing part (10) of the filter housing. The edge enclosure (4) lies tightly against a contact surface (12), which is inclined to the plane of the filter insert, of the upper housing part (9), so that the clean air side of the filter is clearly separated from the surroundings. By means of such a configuration of the U-shaped frame (3), the edge enclosure (4) and the inclined contact surface (12), with relatively low pressing forces, a good seal of the filter insert against the filter housing is achieved even in the case of a very long edge length of the seal.
