A process and an apparatus for the marking of fabric parts which are cut out from fabric layers laid one on top of the other and unrolled from a fabric bale are proposed. In these, the cutting pattern, the cut-layer pattern or the production order are stored, together with material and processing information, in the memory of a control, and a marking device positioned transversely to the laying direction and applying the markings without an interruption of the laying operation is activated as a function of the desired cut-part marking and the marking location and/or of the location and size of a fabric fault. <IMAGE>
