Steering wheel core made of metal with a central hub for attaching the steering wheel to a steering shaft which has a through-bore for receiving one end of the steering shaft and to which a hub plate is attached, to which hub plate at least one steering wheel spoke core rod is attached by one end, the other end of which is attached to a steering wheel rim ring. The hub is worked and hardened at least in the region of one section of the through-bore by non-cutting cold shaping, preferably in the region of a conical and/ôor a section provided with serrations or a multi-groove profile.
