Safety rim for motor vehicles

With this rim, absolute safety against a sudden blowout of a tyre is ensured. In combination with an air pressure indicating device (on the dashboard), it permits a spare tyre to be dispensed with. An air pressure reservoir chamber which is inflated to the necessary ratio to the tyre pressure is attached to the rim. Between the air pressure reservoir chamber and the safety hose located in the tyre, a plurality of pressure compensation valves are attached to the circumference of the rim. The tyre and the air pressure reservoir chamber each have a normal valve for inflation. If the pressure in the tyre drops for any reason whatsoever below the permitted limit, the pressure compensation valves are pressed through into the tyre air space. The safety hose, which withstands travel stresses even when the tyre is severely damaged, is inflated again to the required tyre pressure. The number of pressure compensation valves is chosen to be such that in the event of a sudden blowout of the tyre the air which escapes can be replaced again within seconds. If the pressure drop or damage to a tyre is indicated, the spare tyre can be dispensed with.
