A protection circuit for flexible electrical heating elements (which are provided with a heating element and an associated sensor element and can be switched on and off via a switching device) is proposed, in the case of which the switching device is constructed as a thyristor for rapid response and reliable triggering, and in the case of which the control circuit which influences the control electrode of the thyristor also contains an irreversible protection resistor in addition to the sensor element.
