The printer head includes seven printer units(25). The units are supported so that their printing ends (46) are co-planar and are disposed in a straight line at the rest stations of the printing wires(30). Indexing the printing head relative to the recording paper produces a succession of parallel lines disposed transversely of the printing line. The dot separation between two adjacent dots printed on the paper (47) is determined by the configuration of the printing ends. The support member (45) has a base plate (50) with, upstanding from it, two guides (51, 52) and a support stand(53). A dot separation of 0.4 mm may be achieved.
