<p>Hydrogen halides or other acids, produced during the processing of polymeric materials contg. halogen and/or acid components and/or additives including brominated flame retardants, are effectively neutralised by adding during processing a sufficient amt. of a compsn. of the general formula (I) where A and B are each one or more metals having valencies of a and b respectively, a=1 or 2, and b=2 or 3, w, x and y are positive numbers or fractions, y being greater than 2, the ratio of x/w is greater than or equal to 1, z=0 to ((aw+bx)-y)/C, C is one or more anions having valency of c, c having a value of 1, 2 or 3. The scavenger is pref. injected into the reaction mixt. at a point at the end or just after the reactor system.</p> |
