In a dye diffusion transfer process ballasted magenta azo compounds containing a carrier moiety and a 1,3,4-thiadiazolyl group in the releasable dye moiety are used for improved colour reproduction in a dye diffusion transfer image as a result of a redox reaction not being an oxidative chromogenic coupling reaction or as the result of an argentolytic reaction.
