The invention describes a process for removing sulphur oxides from a gas stream, such as a flue gas stream of a coal power station. The gas stream is passed upwards through gas channels parallel to at least one porous wall which separates the gas channels from the sulphur oxide acceptor channels. The acceptor particles fall slowly through the acceptor channels as a fluidised bed. Sulphur oxides are removed by uptake onto the particles and are then liberated in a regeneration zone. The gas stream does not flow through the acceptor bed and therefore the porous walls are not blocked by solids in the gas.
|
