<p>Method and apparatus for rapidly dispersing particles of dry, water soluble polymer in water, by (a) contacting the particles with water and air in a chamber under conditions of flow of the air and water such that the particles are completely wetted by the water without contact with surfaces of the chamber which are not completely wetted, to form a mixture of water, polymer and entrained air; (b) immediately subjecting the mixture to conditions of instantaneous and momentary shear whereby formation of agglomerates of particles are divided into individual particles, to form a dispersion of the polymer in the water, with entrained air; and (c) separating the dispersion from the air.</p> |
