Sequential block copolymerisation to form novel copolymer

The process is characterised by soln. polymerising 55-95 wt.% monovinyl arene (I) and 45-5 wt.% conjugated diene (II) sequentially with at least two charges of each of (I), (II) and a monoalkali metal initiator (III) and with the following restrictions: (a) at least one charge of (I) and (II) follow the last charge of (III), (b) at least one charge of (II) precedes the last charge of (III), (c) each monomer charge is fully polymerised before further addition, (d) there are no more than 3 charges of each of (I), (II) and (III) so that the total is 8 or 9. The prod. is then coupled with a polyfunctional coupling agent (IV) to form a resinous polymodal, coupled block copolymer.
