<p>9-Alpha-hydroxy androst-4-ene 3,17-diene for use as an intermediate in prepn. of steroid hormones, is made by cultivation of a mutant micro-organism, e.g. Arthrobacter bacillus, Brevibacterium, Corynebacterium, Microbacterium, Nocardia, Prot-aminobacter, Serratia or Streptomyces, capable of selective degradation of steroids with 2-10C alkyl side-chains. Cultivation is under aerobic conditions, in aq. medium contg. sources of nitrogen and carbon, in presence of a steroid with a 2-10C alkyl side-chain in position 17, for 3-15 days. (at 24-35 deg.C).</p> |
