The process is characterised by (a) preparing a prepolymer-contg., liquid reaction mixt. by heating the salt of 1,4-diamino-butane and adipic acid, opt. with up to 25 wt.% other polyamide-forming cpds. at a pressure of 2-100 bar; and (b) maintaining the temp. of the mixt. at above its solidification point while simultaneously reducing the pressure so that the prepolymer is post-condensed.
