A copying timing counting system for counting the rotation angle of a photoreceptor drum (1) in an electrophotographic copying machine comprises a pulse generator (3, 4), and a pulse counter (6). The pulse counter (6) is responsive to the pulse generator (3, 4) for counting both the pulse rising edge and the pulse falling edge. Since the counter can count both the pulse rising edge and the pulse falling edge, the resolving capacity of the system is doubled as compared with know detection systems of this type.
