<p>The free piston (8) consists of a plate (21) with coaxial outer and inner collars (22,23). The peripheral collar (22) affords only relative guidance within the cylinder (14), and reserves forthe propulsive gas from an inlet (2) enough clearance (3) for its admission to the discharge path (5) and store. - The inner collar (23) has a conical edge (24) shaped to match the seating (9) with which it co-operates to close the discharged path to the exit (6). On release of pressure in the inlet chamber (1), the pressure of gas in the store acts on the underside of the piston between the collars (22,23) to open the valve abruptly.</p> |
