摘要

1-Aryl 2-(4-heteroaryl piperazin-1-yl) ethanones are made by (a) treating an acetophenone of formula (II) with ethylene glycol and a brominating agent at 20-30 deg. C to obtain cpds. of formula (III), which are purified by crystallisation or chromatography; (b) reacting (III) with a hetero-aryl piperazine in an inert solvent in presence of a base to obtain cpds. of formula (IV); and (c) treating with a mineral or organic acid at 60-80 deg. C with efficient agitation to obtain cpds. of formula (I).
