Salt of lysine and 2-hydroxy-4-methylthio butyric acid

Crystals of the salt (I) of lysine (II) and 2-hydroxy-4 -methylthiobutyric acid (III) are new. In the salt (I), mol. ratio (II):(III) = 1:1. - In an example, mixt. of L-(II) (67.8 g) and aq. 88% (III) (100 g) was concd. 1.5 times then cooled from 60-20 deg.C to afford (I) (6 g), m.pt. 169.5 deg.C (from H2O by concn. of the soln.).
