Steroid having a basic ring structure of the formula (II) or (III) is prepd. in a form having a reduced particle size by dissolving the steroid in an organic solvent, and precipitating it by mixing a non-sovent for the steroid with the soln, the mixing conditions being controlled to produce a ppte. of the desired reduced particle size. X represents the remainder of a heterocyclic ring, esp. a 5-membered ring having at least two hetero atoms.
