摘要 The material (I) with an absorbency for 10% aq. chloride of at least 3 g/g of dry (I) or salt, comprises sulphonated hydrocarbon residues prepd. by sulphonating a porous, crosslinked polymeric material with a pore vol. greater than 3.0 up to 99.5 cc/g. Also claimed is a process for preparing a homogenous (I). - Pref. (II) has a pore vol. of 8-99.5 pref. greater than 35 cc/g and at least 15% of its monomers all capable of being sulphonated. (I) has a degree of sulphonation greater than (15) (60) pref. above 85% styrene equiv. which is related to pore vol. and a degree of crosslinking which is related to pore vol., of 0.5-8 (less than 10) pref. 5-20%. Polymeric structure has pore vol. is 8-99.5 cc. per g., and is then sulphonated to absorbency for 10% aq. chloride of 3 g. per g. or more of dry sulphonated material or its salt. - Pref. degree of sulphonation is more than 15% styrene equiv., such that 15% or more of the monomers to be polymerised can be sulphonated.
