The connection between the driving component (1) engaging via its shank (1a) in the spindle of a machine tool and the component (2) equipped with a tap holder clamp (3) is provided by balls (18) partially engaged in longitudinal grooves (21) of the component (1) and which are carried by a ring (11) mounted on the component (2) so that they can move axially. The ring (11) is angularly secured to the component (2) by virtue of balls (15) partially housed in pairs of longitudinal grooves (16, 17) in the component (2) and in the ring (11) respectively. When, at the end of the tapping operation, the component (2), moving axially forwards with respect to the component (1), arrives in the vicinity of the end of its travel, the balls (18) escape from the groove (21), in order angularly to release the components (1, 2). The tap can undergo no axial impact or stress because any axial force exerted on the balls (18) cannot be transmitted to it, since the ring (11) carrying the balls (18) is axially free on the component (2). <IMAGE>
