<p>L-Tryptophan is produced in high yield by cultivating Bacillus subtilis S-10 (a 5-methyltryptophan-resistant, tryptophan-producing mutant) for 24-96 hrs. under aerobic conditions in a culture medium which contains an assimilable C source, an assimilable N source, mineral salts and, as L-tryptophan precursor, indole or anthranilic acid. Best yields are obtained when the cultivation is carried out in synthetic media.</p> |
