The bivalvular mitral valve has an intermediary piston for pressure redn. in the pulmonary circuit, and works by virtue of different cross-sectional areas on the valve components. With a ratio of 3:1 in the valve areas, a redn. of pulmonary vein pressure from 20 to 7 (200 to 70 - British system) can be achieved, without creation of oedema. |
