PURPOSE:To prepare a glass, stably, by using a liquid alkoxide as a starting raw material, dispersing and hydrolyzing specific particles in the liquid, and sintering the obtained easily sintering dry gel having low bulk density and high uniformity. CONSTITUTION:A starting raw material such as the alkoxide of one or more elements selected from Si, B, Ge, P, Al, Ti, Zr, Sn, Sr, Y, Pb and Cs (e.g. silicon tetramethoxide) is mixed with an alcohol. Separately, particles of the above elements or their compounds capable of forming a colloid and having particle diameter of 1-500mmu are dispersed in a liquid at a concentration of 0.05-100mol% (based on the raw material component), and deaerated under 1-760Torr pressure. The dispersion is added to the above liquid, hydrolyzed to a sol liquid, gelatinized, and dried. The dry gel is sintered to obtain the objective glass. |
