PURPOSE:To always maintain excellent cooling performance, by a method wherein, in a device which cools an engine by means of the exvaporation latent heat of a cooling solution, the device is constituted such that the detecting position of a liquid level sensor can be switched according to the operating condition of an engine. CONSTITUTION:In a device which controls turning ON and OFF of a feed pump in a cooling circuit by means of a detecting signal from a liquid surface sensor 27 which detects a coolant surface in the water jacket of an engine body 1, the liquid surface sensor 27 is placed in an about boxform holder 26 communicated with a water jacket one the cylinder head 4 side through rubber hoses 30 and 31. Further, the device comprises a reed switch 33 on the stationary side and a magnet 35 attached to the inner side of a float 34. The holder 26 is elevated along with vertical movement of a screw rod 44 threadedly joined with a nut 46 as the screw rod is rotated by means of a stepping motor 42 according to the operating condition of an engine. This causes variation of the detecting position of the liquid surface sensor 27. |
