Cube-on-edge-oriented silicon steel is produced by hot rolling, cold rolling with intermediate annealing to final gauge, normalizing to effect decarburisation and primary recrystallisation and, finally, texture annealing. The process is improved by uniformly light cold rolling deformation of 0.5-5 % redn. just prior to final texture annealing to reduce grain size. The process reduces permeability at high induction levels and grain size during final texsture annealing. Core losses and watt losses are also reduced by reducing the sheet thickness.
