Ski safety binding comprising a retention jaw mounted pivotably in the vertical direction on a body which is itself mounted rotatably about a pivot perpendicular to the ski, and which is held in its normal position by an elastic mechanism comprising two flat parts arranged in opposite directions on the pivot and against which a single spring presses, respectively a bearing surface provided on the rotating body and a piston accommodated inside the latter. In the present binding, the pivoting spindle 18 of the retention jaw 2 is carried by the piston 9 accommodated inside the rotating body. Moreover, holding of the jaw 2 in its normal position is ensured by a transverse rod 21 interposed between this piston 9 and the corresponding flat part 16 of the pivot 13 of the rotating body 5. This rod acts on ramps 24 provided on the retention jaw 2 and which are capable of causing an advance movement of this jaw in the event of upward pivoting of the latter. The present binding is capable of being used either as a front stop or as a heelpiece. <IMAGE>
