The invention relates to a burner using fragmented solid fuel for a boiler. It comprises a tubular enclosure 1 connected to the boiler 2 and a crucible 4 which receives the solid fuel from a conveyor 6 and a primary air flow I from a pumped air source. Partial combustion and pyrolysis of the solid fuel takes place in this crucible, with the formation of a flame 19. At the outlet of the enclosure 1 there is injected a gyratory secondary air flow II which ensures complete combustion of the unburnt fractions resulting from the aforementioned pyrolysis, and causes the flame 19 to extend out of the enclosure 1 into the heat source 17 of the boiler 2. <IMAGE>
