Method of determining the wear of resistance spot welding electrodes

The invention describes a method of determining the wear of resistance spot welding electrodes. To this end, the size of the electrode working surface as well as its degree of contamination are determined in separate measuring steps during a rest cycle between a working process. Conclusions concerning the life of the electrode can be inferred from the result of these measurements. These measured values can likewise be used to optimally set the welding parameters on the basis of the wear of the electrode working surface so that the known adjustments of the welding current and the welding duration during a working cycle need only take into account the changes in the quality of the plates to be joined. <IMAGE>
