An electrical appliance (1), for example an appliance of entertainment electronics or a domestic appliance with a control circuit (2) which can be adjusted into associated operating settings for controlling various operating sequences of the electrical appliance by means of local operating elements (3,4) or a remote control transmitter (10), contains a remote control receiving circuit (7). When a particular operating element (12) of the remote control transmitter is actuated, the latter generates a remote control signal which is only provided for switching-on and -off a blocked mode of the control circuit (2) and is supplied to the control circuit (2) after being decoded in the remote control receiving circuit (7).
