Use of interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma)-containing preparations for the treatment of pain

The invention relates to the use of interferon-gamma (IFN-gamma)-containing preparations for the short-term elimination of pain. The interferon can be administered for pain elimination intravenously as well as intramuscularly, subcutaneously, intracutaneously, intraarticularly or intrathecally either as bolus or as continuous drip for up to 24 hours. Depending on the severity of the disorder, 200 to 2000 million international units are given as single or multiple injection or infusion. Pain elimination is achieved in the case of virus diseases, cancers, rheumatic diseases and disorders of uncertain aetiology such as Crohn's disease.
