In order to be able to connect wall cladding (13), in particular a frost-resistant masonry structure, to a wall (12), the two being at a constant spacing but the cladding otherwise being capable of slight movement within its plane, at least one, but as a rule a multiplicity of, devices are placed at a lateral spacing and a vertical spacing between the wall and the wall cladding. These devices permit two degrees of freedom which are perpendicular to each other and can allow for greater expansion of the wall cladding, for example, than of the wall without stresses occurring. Each device part comprises essentially two device parts connected in an articulated manner to each other, that is to say the cladding-side device part (2) and the wall-side device part (3). Each device part is firmly anchored on its associated structural part, therefore the wall on the one hand and the wall cladding or the frost-resistant masonry structure on the other hand. The relative movement takes place in the region of the "coupling" of the two device parts (2 and 3). In this arrangement, a bar-shaped element (1), which in the installed position runs horizontally and parallel to the wall and to the wall cladding, passes through at least one slot (10; 24, 25), extending in the vertical direction, of the other device part.
