A dental spreading forceps having two jaws with an approximately semi-circular cross-section, which have a rough surface on their rounded outer side, and are, in particular, coated with a fine-granular hard material, with two arms which are each connected with one of the jaws and with an adjusting device engaging on the arms and delimiting the pivoting movement of the handles relative to one another in one direction, is characterised in that the arms (18, 20, 52, 54) are elastically bendable at least over part of their length, and that the adjusting device (22, 24, 60) engages on such a point of the arms that at least part of the elastic region of the arms is located between the adjusting device and the jaws. As a result, a crown having a conical hollow space can be reliably kept in this hollow space by engagement. <IMAGE>
