A vacuum cleaner has a pivotable handle 12 which is fixed to the housing 1 and is adjustable starting from its pivoting hinge 13 on the one hand into a position which engages over the housing 1 and, on the other hand, into a position which faces substantially away from the housing 1, the positions being retained in each case. In order in this case to achieve a stable bearing of the handle with a simple construction and pleasant appearance, one part of the pivoting hinge 13 is arranged directly on the housing 1. In this case, the axis of the pivoting hinge 13 is expediently arranged within the contours of the housing 1. <IMAGE>
