Process for solidifying radioactive liquids by precipitation

Radioactive liquids can be treated by precipitation by means of chemicals, in order to reduce the quantities arising for ultimate deposition, as compared with the direct solidification using cement as binder. For the precipitation, solid substances are used as the chemicals, by means of which the main radioactive constituents are converted in a topochemical reaction to compounds sparingly soluble in water, so that a matrix for fixing the radioactive inventory is formed. The invention is particularly suitable for treating spent decontamination liquids and boron-containing evaporator concentrates.
