In order to prevent the hard striking of a toilet covering against the upper and/or lower boundary, the installation of hydraulic damping elements in the rear part of the toilet seat (1) and of the toilet lid (2) is proposed. For this purpose, the axle (2) is divided into individual axle sections (5) whose ends are provided on one side with wings (11) or, via a thread, with a piston (9). The wings (11) or pistons (9), together with the appropriately shaped recesses, form a hydraulic damping system whose mode of action can be varied by valves (13) or shaping of the recesses (6). The free ends of the axle sections (5) are connected to the holders (3) in a positive-locking manner. For the purpose of cleaning or exchange, the seat (1) and lid (4) can be pulled out of the holders (3). <IMAGE>
