1361404 Nut: furniture joints A V LANCASHIRE Ltd 20 July 1971 [21 July 1970] 35253/70 Headings F2H and F2M A leg 10 is secured to a brace 12 by a nut member (Fig. 1) formed of a piece of spring steel bent back on itself to form a generally U-shaped portion, the limb 2 of the U having a hole for freely passing the stud 11 and the limb 1 having a hole with a periphery shaped as a single turn helix to engage the thread of stud 11. Tightening of the stud 11 distorts the nut member causing the peripheries of holes 3, 4 the jam in the stud thread to lock the stud. The nut member may be secured to brace 12 by teeth 7 formed on the end of limb 1 and driven into a side surface (Fig. 4) or a top surface (Fig. 5, not shown) of the brace. Where the brace is of metal the teeth are omitted and the end of limb 1 is bent over twice as in Fig. 4, one of the bends being greater than 90 degrees, so that the nut member may be resiliently clipped on to the brace. Fig. 6 shows a nut member adapted to secure the leg 10 angled outwardly from the position shown in Fig. 4. The correct angle between the lower face of brace 12 and the upper face of leg 10 is ensured by means of a wedgeshaped spacer. |
