Process for preparing a sodium dithionite solution as the end product from sodium borohydride, aqueous sodium hydroxide and sulphur dioxide, characterised in that the sulphur dioxide is scrubbed out, in at least one first scrubbing stage, from an exhaust gas by means of a scrubbing agent which contains sodium borohydride and aqueous sodium hydroxide and in that at least a part of the scrubbing product is drawn off as the end product.
