PURPOSE:To reduce the time required for recalibrate seek (RS) instruction and to improve the performance of a magnetic disc device by latching a seek error state to an internal state supervisory means and applying the RS operation after direct seek of 0 cylinder even to the RS instruction when no seek error exists. CONSTITUTION:A microprocessor 12 receives a recalibrate instruction from a host device and whether or not a seek error state exists is checked by using an output of an internal state supervisory means 5 and when any seek error exists, the RS operation is applied, a magnetic head 2 is moved in outer peripheral direction by using a head positioning means 6, and when the supervisory means 5 detects the arrival at an outer guard band C, the moving direction is inverted and stopped when the head restores to the initial position. When not in the seek error state, the seek to the 0 cylinder position by the direct seek, then the RS control signal is fed to the means 6 to apply the RS seek. Thus, the time required for the RS seek is reduced. |
